It has been brought to my attention that the "Labyrinth Walk" pattern has a couple technical errors.  In the San Luigi block there are two half square triangles that need to be flipped around to create the 3D effect.  I have circled  where the corrections occur. See Diagrams below.

  1. Hi - I am searching for this pattern and will buy it. But will the pattern I buy have this error? Or has it been corrected with subsequent publications? Thank you for your help

    1. I'm truly sorry, but I don't know. The pattern has been corrected, but all you have to do is flip the little half square triangle.
      See diagram above.

    2. Good morning, I know of several quilt stores as well as on line stores that carry my patterns. Please let me know of your location, and I will do my best to find pattern in a location near you.

    3. Is there an error with the number of marked black squares needed for the San Luigi block? On page 3 it says you will need 28, but I find I need 32 in the process of making blocks A through G. Is that correct?

  2. Are there other errors on the pattern? White strips 24 not 20 1 1/4 ×4 1/4, 48 not 52 1 1/4 × 3 1/2 White strips, 8 not 12 light gray 3 1/2 × 8, dark gray 65 not 69 3 1/2 squares. Also on page 5 top line says stitch on (1) 1 1/4 ×6 1/4 should be 1 1/4 × 6 1/2. Or did I do this wrong.

    1. I've checked the pattern, as well as many other people that have made the quilt. Couldn't find any other issues.

    2. Barb McCarty thanks for finding the errors; nothing is worst than getting to the end of the piecing process only to find you don't have the correct number of pieces or cut enough of a colorway.

    3. Bottom of page 3 should say "end of 8 of the 3 1/2 X 8" instead of 12.

  3. I am a hand quilter. Did you have any design in mind for those of us without longarmers? I made your LW quilt and am ready to quilt it. I'm thinking in the ditch is all that won't detract from the 3D.

  4. Thanks for the good question. I use to do long arm quilting for hire, and one of the important things to remember if you press the seams open, quilting in the ditch just holds threads.
I generally love to press my seams open to achieve a flatter quilt.
    Thanks again.

  5. Made it and loved it. I am starting San Marco Square and would like to strip piece it. I am very math challenged. What would be the best width for the strips?

  6. I'm thinking a little wider than the paper....maybe 4ish

  7. I am utterly disappointed to find this 3D effect error AFTER I have completed the whole quilt. I ish I hadn't found it because now I'm always going to see it. Feel like crying :(

  8. Are you sure that HST needs to be rotated? The images on the web of this floor show the orientation of that square exactly as you have it in the pattern. By the way, I got my pattern through the catalog from AQS- easily obtainable. Now there, there really was a turning of the pattern! Great job, Chris, in producing this pattern.

Where can I buy the pattern for Labyrinth Walk please?

  10. Is the picture you have circled the way it is as the correct way or is the pic showing the incorrect way?

    ReplyDelete
  11. For those that are confused.... it appears that Chris is showing a picture of the already corrected printed pattern. If yours looks like one pictured then you have a updated printed pattern that has already been corrected.

  13. How challenging is Labyrinth Walk? Say with #1 being easy and #10 being difficult? I'm looking for a challenge! Also, what can you do with something this size? Too small for a bed, too large for a wall, and isn't the design lost if it's thrown over a sofa?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I would say either an 8 or 9. It fits a full size bed

  15. Hi Christopher,
I’m in the process of making Scottish Ale and found a slight error.
From Row 6 to Row 16 inclusive the first ‘C’ block is rotated the wrong way in the diagrams.
Just thought you might like to know and maybe put an ‘errata’ message on your site.
I’m loving this quilt and so does my son.

  17. Can someone tell me what pieces are used in the BA section of the San Luigi block?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I took that to be a typo since there are no instructions for making a BA unit. I used the B unit and it came out fine.

  18. It bothers me that there is no way to "walk" this maze. There is an entrance but it doesn't lead anywhere. As pure 3D it works but as a labyrinth it doesn't.

    1. Yes, I see what you mean. The white strips ending abruptly to the right have me puzzled as well. It would be fascinating to take the concepts in this quilt and make it truly a 'walkable' labyrinth.

  24. I just purchased this pattern from The Backdoor Quilt Shoppe. I have a couple questions. Figure one at the bottom of page 4 looks exactly as the one looks in this correction. Does that mean it has already been corrected on the pattern? Otherwise, I don't quite understand what you mean by flip it around.

My second question is, I don't want to make this as a full-sized quilt. I want to decrease it to a lap quilt or smaller, but I'm not sure how to do the math to adjust the size of the pieces. For example, instead of (2) 6 1/2" x 42" strips, if I want the quilt to be 42" x 42", how do I change it?

  26. My sister saw this quilt and loves it! The problem, she wants me to make it for her and she has a King size bed.... any chance the math is out there to increase the number of blocks that have been reduced to fit the top of a king?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think if you add one more block to each row it will bring it up to a size you can add borders to make it a king.

  27. My hat is off to Christopher Florence for the Labyrinth Walk pattern. It is difficult to imagine the time and calculations needed to design and write that pattern. I purchased and used the pattern to make the quilt and was able to build the quilt with little difficulty. It looks great.

  28. I have just bought the Labyrinth Walk Pattern and am in the process of ordering my fabric. I am a "newbie" quilter so forgive what is probably a stupid question but the pattern says 7-3/4 yards of backing fabric - is this in normal 44" quilting fabric or in 108" backing fabric? I assumed it would be in 108" but that seems like an awful lot of fabric.

    Thanks Everyone,
    Larissa

  29. Hi, I am new to quilting and think your pattern is just fantastic. Have used the link to American Quilt but shipping is $60 minimum. Do you know if you have asupplier in the UK or an American site that has a lower shipping cost.

    Many thanks

  30. I bought the pattern on Etsy. The issue I'm running into is that I can't see a visible difference between the black and dark gray on the pattern. I can't tell which way it should be sewn to each other or to the other pieces. Is this a reproduced pattern on Etsy and the color differences have disappeared after multiple printings? Very frustrating that I can't correctly complete my first block. Any help would be appreciated.

  31. I also found a couple of other mistakes. At the bottom of page 3 it says there needs to be 12 B blocks. There should only be 8. The first sentence at the top of page 5 says that the white strip should be 6 1/4. It needs to be 6 1/2.

  33. I am in the process of making this quilt for my grandson but n grays with red highlight. My pattern has the corrections mentioned, however page 7 is missing It goes from 6 to 8 then 9 and 10. The only thing I think is missing is how to attach the 1 1/4" X 42 white strips to the left side after attaching all 3 rows. Please email me at jhardy3@sc.rr.com

  37. I have been reading the posts regarding the Labyrinth Walk quilt pattern. I am very confused at this point. Exactly how many correction are there? I was told there were two but seems there could be more. The pattern I have shows the same orientation as the two corrections shown. Does that mean my pattern is already corrected? Is there any other issues I should know about before I invest in the material. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

  38. I have this pattern, I’ve read the online posts of potential corrections. But I am having an issue with block (Jericho) 1, figure 6. Unit G. It states, sew a G unit to the top of the block, followed by a white strip measuring 1 1/4” x 19 1/4”- however... Page 2, tells me to make a G unit- I see a 3 1/2”square to a 3 1/2”x8” rectangle and trim the corner piece... how exactly is an 8” G unit suppose to fit across the top of the Jericho block and then be topped with a 19 1/4” white strip..... this has to be a misprint in the length of the G unit

  39. gutted, finished all blocks and found page7/8 missing from pattern. Can you help?

  40. I am SO VERY frustrated with this pattern! I'm finding that most every strip ends up having to be trimmed after being sewn on..not a big deal with a solid part, but, with the triangle edges that's not good! Plus one of the strips that have a triangle on both ends is really too long, and when you match the diagonal on the bottom, the top is off by a half inch so the diagonal edge won't match up and is instead way in. I've remeasured everything, and all my pieces are right on with the pattern sizes. I'm just furious, and frustrated. Not like I've never made a quilt before...I LOVE doing 3 D quilts, and have never had the trouble I am with this one.

  44. Am I the only one that was left with 4 B blocks extra for the San Luigi block? It asks to have 12 prepared. All the blocks are now finished and fit well together, so not sure why 4 are left over.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Where are the 4 B(a) pieces supposed to be used? It mentions them in section (1) and then again in completing Block B. The instructions call for 4 B(a) pieces and 4 B pieces but never is the B piece mentioned.....so confused.
